Sr. Principal / Principal Embedded Software Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector (NGMS) is a leading global provider of secure software-defined, hardware enabled mission systems. Our company is pioneering capabilities in a wide variety of sectors that keep our nation and our allies safe from undersea to space and cyberspace. NGMS is seeking Embedded Principal Software Engineers with the desire to learn new technologies to join our team in San Antonio, TX.

Candidates will develop embedded systems using primarily C/C++ across all phases of the software development lifecycle. Embedded software engineers at Northrop Grumman use Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team oriented. This role will interface with systems engineers to develop flow down software requirements and technical specifications. Responsibilities include identifying risks, suggesting mitigation, tracking defects, developing resolutions, and reporting status. The individual will develop complex software solutions, develop and execute unit tests, build verification test plans, and track and report test status. Additionally, the selected individual will conduct reviews of software related products, software designs, and additional technical documents. The selected individual will actively participate in as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) member in design reviews and technical peer reviews. Individuals must be self starters and able to efficiently operate in a team environment and are expected to prioritize and make recommendations to Technical Leads, as required, to implement tasking assigned.

This position may be filled as a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer based on the qualifications listed below.

Position will serve on-site in San Antonio, TX.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Level:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience (3 years for MS degree, 0 years for PhD)
• Experience working in C/C++.
• Candidate must already posses, or have recently held, active DoD "Secret" Security Clearance (or higher) and have the ability to maintain.

Preferred Qualifications for Principal Level:

• Proficiency developing real time embedded software.
• Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
• Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization.
• Knowledge of Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space technologies.
• Experience with VxWorks and/or Linux Operating Systems.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience (7 years for MS degree, 4 years for PhD)
• Experience working in C/C++.
• Candidate must already posses, or have recently held, active DoD "Secret" Security Clearance (or higher) and have the ability to maintain.

Preferred Qualifications for Sr. Principal Level:

• Proficiency developing real time embedded software.
• Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
• Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization.
• Knowledge of Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space technologies.
• Experience with VxWorks and/or Linux Operating Systems.

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
