The San Diego Autonomous Design Center of Excellence (ADCoE) Software Directorate has a need for a Consulting Engineer in the Software Integration & Test Automation (SI&TA) Department, performing in the role of a Department Software Integration & Test Automation Architect in San Diego, CA.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to mentor, motivate, and train SI&TA employees. This leader will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. A commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business is expected in this role. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
 
Primary software integration and test automation duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform analysis on current program processes, evaluate company and industry best practices, research, design, develop, and manage a SI&TA department skill roadmap and training plan
  • Evaluate and incorporate automated software test tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems, or embedded products
  • Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and detailed analysis to the development of complex integration environments and test architectures
  • Leverage agile concepts, practices, and organization to plan, communicate, develop, and deliver Minimum Viable Product (MVP) automated test solutions
  • Research and analyze relevant data and proposals, internal company technologies, market trends, state of technology and industry, specifications, and related commercial products to determine feasibility of design, configuration, and integration into ADCoE programs
  • Advocate for and apply good technical practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, test automation, automated infrastructure, and test coverage and quality
  • Promote agile methodologies to anticipate and mitigate risks, ensure team health and manage complex tasks
  • Collaborate with management and leadership within engineering to address concerns and support independent reviews by investigating and resolving related issues
  • Provide leadership and/or direction to software integration and test leads, engineers, and teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to mid- and junior-level software test engineers, by sharing knowledge and encouraging professional growth 

 
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline from an accredited university with 20 years related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 18 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 15 years of related engineering experience
  • ACtive DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher and the ability to obtain and maintain special program access (PAR)
  • Experience with 3 or more of the following:  modern software engineering concepts, manual and automated testing processes, modern automated test tools, test-driven development, behavior driven development (BDD), designing and developing test suites, techniques for the verification and validation of the quality of software products, and hardware and software integration
  • Knowledge with at least 2 of the following automated test frameworks: SpiraTest, Cucumber, TestComplete, Selenium, GoogleTest, AQT Automated Test Tool , NGSIL (V2) / RVT
  • Experience in a Software Engineering leadership role
  • Familiar with Agile methodology

 
Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field
  • 5+ years of software integration and automated test experience 
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and UNIX/Linux in system integration environments
  • Demonstrated experience with incorporating test automation within a continuous integration & test environment
  • Integration of in-tier applications (e.g., Angular, REST services, Java-EE, etc.) testing tools, frameworks, and libraries
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in DevSecOps, application engineering and embedded systems build, deployment and monitoring tools
  • Direct experience in developing and executing automated software testing components and developing automation suites
  • Strong working knowledge of software testing levels: unit, integration, regression, load and performance, user interface automated testing, black box, white box, grey box, bug tracking systems, test design and execution
  • Experience with software integration and automated testing of applications using cloud-related technologies
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, excellent written & oral communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Active, in scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance and active PAR

Salary Range: 188300 - 282500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
