Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an experienced Staff Engineer Software - Embedded to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

The Staff Engineer Software position is part of the Core Vehicle Management System (CVMS) Software Team.  CVMS is developing product line Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) used to support current and future Autonomous System and Strategic System vehicles.  Candidate will provide leadership and develop technical solutions for the assigned tasks.    The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment.  

Tasks may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Document, Design, code, and integrate flight critical software for the Vehicle Management System (VMS)
  • Document, Design, code, and integrate air vehicle simulation (AVSIM) software 
  • Provide requirements definition and allocation
  • Lead anomaly resolution related to the VMS and AVSIM
  • Perform and support VMS studies
  • Support internal stakeholders
  • Perform hardware/software integration
  • Perform unit level testing
  • Represent the team at internal/external customer/subcontractor technical interchange meetings (TIMs) including advising on technical matters
  • Work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives, determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.  
  • Develop and maintain of embedded software products along with opportunities to develop components and architectures for future vehicle management systems.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 14 years related engineering experience, OR a Masters in STEM with 12 Years of related engineering experience, OR a PhD in STEM with 9 Years of related engineering experience
  • Active DOD Secret (or higher) clearance, and the ability to obtain Special Access security clearances.

Preferred Qualification: 

  • Experience coding in C/C++ (Object Oriented Programming), Python
  • Experience with software developed using the Real-Time Component Framework (RTCF)
  • Experience with embedded software design/Real-time control/device drivers/Board Support Packages (BSPs)
  • Experience with Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS; VxWorks and/or Green Hills) and associated tools
  • Experience with MS Visual Studio, SVN, JIRA, Google Test

Salary Range: 156000 - 234000

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
