Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for a Principal or Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer to support the Systems Engineering Requirements and Verification (R&V) organization in San Diego, CA.

The selected candidate will support the Strike Program and will identify cybersecurity risks and design, develop, integrate, test, and verify system security solutions. The candidate will be responsible for identifying deriving technical and organizational requirements from cybersecurity controls, identifying cybersecurity risks, working with stakeholders to develop a technical and programmatic plan for verification, and driving the incorporation of cybersecurity improvements. The individual will leverage leadership skills to engage customer counterpart as well as other stakeholders to drive improvements into the system’s cybersecurity posture. The Cyber Systems Engineer will report within the Systems Engineering & Integration SE&I) organization under the R&V function.


Responsibilities will include:

-Requirement and Security controls management
- Management of the Security Controls Traceability Matrix (SCTM)
- Management of Cybersecurity requirements in a Requirements Management Database e.g. DOORS.
- Direct engagement and planning with all necessary stakeholders (Customer, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Program Management, etc.) to drive incorporation of recommendations into the system
- Support the creation of RMF package (IA SOP, SSP, SCTM, RAR, POA&M, SAP) for obtaining/maintaining the ATO

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal or Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer level. 

Basic Qualifications for a Principal level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience OR; a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of relevant experience
  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to get program access clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline plus 9 years of relevant experience OR; a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 7 years of relevant experience
  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to get program access clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of Systems Security Engineering (SSE) and Integration including requirements definition, implementation, and integration
  • Systems engineering knowledge of military/weapon systems in one or more of the following areas: RF, radar, EO/IR, satellites, sensors, embedded software or hardware, hardware design or system integration, or ground station networks
  • Experience in developing, managing, and decomposing requirements throughout the lifecycle
  • Experience in requirements verification tool suites: DOORS, CAMEO, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Working knowledge of technical security controls and the RMF process as defined in NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-37 respectively 
  • Working knowledge of programming/scripting languages (e.g. C, C++, Python)
  • Experience remediating, mitigating, and documenting cybersecurity vulnerabilities; experience maintaining or supporting POA&M documentation
  • Experience defining software requirements and reviewing or developing verification tests
  • Experience planning, proposing, and driving inclusion of engineering into Integrated Functional Capabilities (IFCs)
  • MBSE and Agile Systems Engineering Experience.
  • Extensive experience in requirements & verification tool suites: DOORS, CAMEO, Jira, and Confluence.


Salary Range: 111400 - 167000
Salary Range 2: 138100 - 207100

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
