Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Engineer or Principal Engineer, Survivability Subsystem to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA or Palmdale, CA.

Successful candidate will have a broad knowledge and technical experience with the development and procurement of aircraft survivability subsystem design, installation, integration and support for advanced programs. Primary responsibilities include the development of sub-system system architecture and drawings, procurement specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Statements of Work (SOWs), support supplier development and delivery, along with test support. Additional activities may involve manufacturing/test liaison activities, troubleshooting, software requirements, support analysis development and documentation.

Background should include understanding of RF and antenna functionality, systems engineering, LRU integration and testing, and supplier management.  Candidate is expected to operate as an integral part of a technical team in a dynamic environment, to be highly self-motivated, reporting information to technical leads and program leadership.

This requisition may be filled at either a Engineer level or Principal Engineer level. 

Basic Qualifications for an Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable timeframe to meet business needs.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Minimum 1 year experience designing, maintaining, and/or testing RF systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with no experience
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable timeframe to meet business needs.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Minimum 1 year experience designing, maintaining, and/or testing RF systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate with experience procuring major components, coordination of software requirements and vehicle integration including flight test support.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience designing, maintaining, and/or testing RF systems.
  • Some experience in operations analysis.


Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
