Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Technical Leader and Functional Homeroom Section Manager. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

This role will have both program and functional responsibilities. The program responsibilities make up 85% of the role to lead a technical team of engineers supporting various efforts and the remaining 15% of time is functional homeroom responsibilities to manage a section of 8 – 12 electronics engineers with various grade levels.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

•             Technical planning, architecture, design, integration, deployment, verification and validation, and system effectiveness analysis at all levels to include concept, design, configuration, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.

•             Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

•             In additional to the technical aspects, the technical lead will interface with Sub-IPTs for cost, schedule, and risks and opportunity.

Functional Homeroom responsibilities include the following:

•             Partner with technical and functional management to develop an approach that satisfies the staffing needs between programs

•             Timecard approval, employee performance evaluations, facilitating employee growth and organizational technical skills

•             Build an engineering culture that empowers employees, establishes personal and team accountability, motivates team performance, encourages development, and supports innovation

•             Ensure personnel and hardware safety, driving compliance with policies and procedures including security, property management, training, configuration control, and test conduct

•             Instruct, mentor and champion agile concepts and processes

•             Special assignments in support of the functional homeroom


•             Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 9 years of combined technical and management experience (7 years with Master's, 5 years with PhD)

•             Extensive experience in networking engineering and/or datacenters and IT Infrastructure

•             Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance (Interim Secret Required to Start)


•             Experience as lead or manager

•             System level integration experience

•             Experience in system level requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, and/or verification.

•             Experience in systems engineering, MBSE, system integration, system and/or software test engineering.

•             Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance

•             CCNP+ (Switch, Router, Troubleshooting, Security, VOIP) level of understanding of Network Development and Implementation; Leads Implementation and Design Reviews

•             Knowledge of Cisco UCS Compute, NetApp ONTAP/StorageGrid, Cisco Nexus Networks, VMware virtualization (vSphere, NSX-T, Horizon, vRealize, and vCloud Foundation)

Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
