Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has a Section Manager opening for the Electrical Circuit Design and System Integration.  This part time role is located at our Rancho Bernardo facility in the greater San Diego area and is part of the Vehicle Integration Department.  The group’s charter is to maintain and evolve capabilities in air vehicle electrical design and integration that will continue to enable innovative solutions for our mission architectures. 

This Functional Manager position is responsible for providing leadership and management support to a section consisting of between 10 to 15 engineering leads and individual contributors.  The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem-solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team building skills.  Travel, both domestic and international, up to 25% may be required for this role.

As a Functional Section Manager (SM) reporting to the Department Manager within the Vehicle Integration (VI) Department, approximately 15% of the SM’s time will be spent performing leadership, people management, and supervisory duties such as management of personnel (direction & coaching), program/project reviews, coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting, timecard approval, performance reviews, and process improvement activities.  In addition, the individual will support technology and business development activities, proposals, and design reviews.  The balance of the time (85%) is expected to be spent supporting direct programs.

Responsibilities include leading a team of 10-15 people who manage aircraft electrical circuit design, development, qualification, production and sustainment.  Specific responsibilities include technical and managerial leadership, problem solving, business support/budget management, hiring/staffing, and other functional activities.  The successful candidate is expected to spend his/her time managing the team as well as working directly on a variety of air vehicle technical programs.  The successful candidate must have experience working with diverse technical teams, and must also be experienced with the design, assembly and/or test of flightworthy electrical circuit cards or LRU hardware. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university and a minimum of 9 years experience or Masters degree and 7 years experience.
  • Ability to travel within the US and Internationally
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of electrical circuit design, LRU design and qualification, interface development and overall subsystem integration, verification, and flight test support.   
  • air vehicle system integration and electrical LRU development and qualification processes.  A leader who possesses solid experiences in electrical harnesses design and system schematic layouts.  Ability to support the team to determine and develop the avionics architecture which best fits the system level requirements and system architecture.  Experiences in determining the avionics procured subsystem design tradeoffs working with subcontractors to develop subsystem detailed specification.  Have experiences in performing tradeoffs between cost/schedule/performance for competing avionics architectures which meet system performance requirements.  Familiar with Mil-Std-704, ACS harness Spec, AS5088, IPC-2221 and IPC-2222. 
  • Prior technical and subcontracts management experience, along with a track record of leading a highly skilled team and suppliers in the design integration phases of air vehicle systems within schedule, labor and material cost requirements is preferred.
  • Prior management and cost account management experience including EVMS
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related study preferred
  • Current, active DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
