Northrop Grumman Space Components Business Unit designs, manufactures and operates small and medium-class spacecraft for communications, imaging, scientific, exploration and national security space applications. The Group is leading supplier of space components that power and enable satellites of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.

Northrop Grumman Space Components has an opening for a Production Painter 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA. for 2nd shift

Responsibilities:

  • Coats surface of parts, assemblies, and finished products with protective or decorative materials such as paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer, dope, or stain using spray gun.
  • Selects and mixes coating material; coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer using brush or roller.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Must understand the tools, equipment, prep, painting and layout procedures with out supervision.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years related experience
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good analytical ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice
  • Able to read & understand blue prints and written instruction
  • Mixing of various multi-part Paints
  • Familiar with composite and metals surface preparation
  • Sanding, etching, alodine, water break testing.
  • Application of aerospace grade paints
  • Know paint & chemical mixing. Understands formulas & viscometer.
  • Able to apply paint without runs, sags, orange-peel etc.
  • Understands Touchup- strip/sand, masks & repaints that blends to match surrounding area
  • Perform paint equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • Chemical conversion coating
  • Overall shop cleaning and maintenance
  • Able to work 2nd shift
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work while in various positions on floor/floor creepers.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and or service/stands.
  • Must be able to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment (man lifts, ladders and stands)
  • Must be able to Lift up to 35 pounds
  • Must pass a Respiratory Physical
  • Must be able to wear a full face Respirator

Salary Range: $42,100 USD - $70,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
