The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Our team is chartered with providing the skills, innovative technologies to develop, design, produce and sustain optimized product lines across the sector while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter. The successful candidate will work with our experienced static load test team and learn to perform precision mechanical test set ups with hydraulics and instrumentation, followed by the execution of static load testing of space flight hardware.

This is a 2nd Shift position ( 1:30 pm to 11:00 pm )

Typical testing projects include:

  • Mechanical assembly of load application and restraint mechanisms and structure;
  • Hydraulic actuators setup
  • Installation of test instrumentation for force, strain, and deflection;
  • Execution of test per exacting procedures and requirements;
  • Documentation and report out

Skills/Abilities

Highly Desired:

  • Experience in composite manufacturing, assembly, and handling of flight hardware.
  • Practical mechanical experience, including use of mechanical tools, torque wrenches, drilling, tapping, and metal cutting and finishing.
  • High mechanical and electrical aptitude to learn the build-up of test setups with instrumentation.

In Addition:

  • Strong math and science aptitude to learn fundamentals of static load engineering - including force, stress, strain, modulus and inertia.
  • Ability or experience with crane and fork lift rigging and safety for heavy lift and placement
  • Ability to read, write and interpret written instructions, blueprints, or shop drawings in English.
  • Good documentation, organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high degree of self-discipline to follow policies and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and highly motivated for excellence.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed based on demanding manufacturing schedules.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Excels in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work at heights exceeding 20 feet and/or in confined spaces performing mechanical assembly / disassembly.
  • Ability to be on feet for up to 9 hours each day.

Education/Experience

  • 1 - 2 years’ experience in mechanical testing or aerospace composite manufacturing
  • Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with mechanical testing and/or instrumentation
  • Prior mechanical or vocational experience with mechanical tools, torque wrenches, drilling, tapping, and metal cutting and finishing
  • Prior experience with crane and fork lift operation
  • Prior experience with hydraulic actuators


Salary Range: $38,700 USD - $64,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
