Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Systems Engineer – X-Lab based out of Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

What You’ll get to Do:

  • Perform as individual contributor and Project Lead for advanced concepts development projects. This includes directing the activities of junior level engineers.
  • Contribute in full lifecycle development of advanced concepts.
  • Position is responsible for defining Operations Concepts, designing prototype capabilities, guiding prototype implementation, designing experiment & test strategies, analyzing results and applying results to guide prototype evolution into the C2BMC production system.
  • Support advanced concept demonstrations during live and simulated MDA test events.
  • Work with senior C2BMC technical leaders to evolve advanced Missile Defense command and control capabilities.
  • This position will focus on and lead the integration of the R&D systems into C2BMC and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab projects as needed, including the assessment on how the C2BMC prototype system performs using state vectors, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight test events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities.
  • The Systems Engineer will apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations.
  • Non-standard work hours are highly likely during event execution and a small amount of travel may be required.
     

Basic Qualifications:

If applicable, please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume.

  • An active Top Secret clearance is required.
  • 14 Years with Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 12 years’ experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Expertise in full cycle systems engineering of new capabilities.
  • Capability and requirement derivation based on customer needs.
  • Operations Concept (OPSCON) & Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development. System and subsystem decomposition.
  • Use case, system requirements, performance specification development, and UML modeling.
  • System interface design & Interface Control Document development.
  • Conducting and participating in peer reviews.
  • Leadership of a team composed of multiple disciplines.
  • The Systems Engineer must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles and be able to communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users.
  • The Systems Engineer should have demonstrated expertise in systems-of-systems definition, development, and integration.
  • The Systems Engineer should have demonstrated the ability to analyze high level needs and defined a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product.
  • The Systems Engineer should have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience in writing and implementing engineering plans within a project.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideally, the Systems Engineer will have experience in working on IRAD-type projects.
  • Integration practices and methods.
  • Analysis tool development using MATLAB, Excel, S-Code, Satellite Toolkit (STK).
  • Perform verification and validation of systems (functional and performance). Operating systems experience with Windows & Unix/Linux.
  • System Architecture Description development.
  • Algorithm design and implementation.
  • Trade Study execution.
  • Experiment and test event design and planning.
  • Theory and application of the BMDS.
  • Theory and application of command and control systems.
  • Theory and application of track correlation algorithms.
  • Probability theory and optimal state estimation.
  • Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management.
  • Familiarity with Link-16, including content, transmission rules, etc.
  • Coding skills a plus (Java, C++, and shell scripts) as well as using the Agile methodology for software development.

Salary Range: 141440 - 212160

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
