The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.

  • Must have the experience and maturity to work with small teams and interface with customers and senior managers. This position is primarily focused on the Operations & Sustainment of several interconnected networks; however, knowledge of System and Network Engineering processes, Agile development, and DevOps is essential for mission success.

  • Assist in the implementation of required government policies and directives. Provide recommendations on project tailoring, and participate in and document project activities.

  • Support a team of Information Technology (IT) personnel with varying levels of competence in Windows and Linux operating systems. Providing mentorship in networking and mission system operational concepts.

  • Position is normally Mon – Fri; may require on-call, evening, and weekend support during system anomalies or mission requirements.

  • Experience managing a team of Information Technology (IT) personnel with varying levels of competence in Windows and Linux operating systems. Providing mentorship in networking and mission system operational concepts.

  • Experience with diagnosing, mitigating, troubleshooting issues, and contribute to other mission related teams through system testing, log analysis, and direct problem solving techniques.

  • Experience in Server System Administration and troubleshooting analysis in some or all of the following platforms: Linux, Windows servers/clients, and Oracle/SQL Databases.

  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of Juniper network design and testing methodologies using Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls.

  • General understanding of trouble ticket practices and tracking processes

  • Experience with VMware products, ESXi, vCenter, virtual machines, and clustering.

  • Experience in clearing and disposing of classified hardware in accordance with security policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders ranging from technical staffers up to senior program managers.

  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated system engineers, software developers, and system/network administrators.

  • Candidate must be a self-starting problem solver, with the capability to work with limited supervision for troubleshooting to resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree with 10 years of experience; OR Masters Degree with 8 years of experience

  • TS/SCI Clearance with Counter Intelligence (CI) Polygraph

  • Security + or other DoD 8570 approved certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Linux/Unix System Administrator

  • Experience scripting on Linux, UNIX, or Windows servers and Workstations

  • Experience deploying Mission Unique Software (MUS) in computing virtualized environments

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Active Directory and Group Policy for Windows 10 and Server 16

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining system backups

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining NFS/CIFS file systems

  • Experience hardening systems using DoD STIGS

  • Experience or understanding in serial communication

  • Experience with COMSEC maintenance

  • Experience using and/or maintaining Atlassian applications: Jira, BitBucket, Confluence, Bamboo

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining a Continuous Integration environment

  • Experience with Juniper network design and testing methodologies using Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls

  • Experience in protocol analyzers and sniffers capabilities, DoD authentication & encryption methods/capabilities and Network Management Systems or NAS/SAN technologies (e.g., NetApp).

  • Hands on experience with any of the following tools:

  • Confluence and Jira Administration

    WSUS/YUM Repository

    VMWare Horizon, vSphere, or vCenter

    Microsoft Active Directory, OpenLDAP

    Continuous Integration with Jenkins, SonarQube, or Bamboo

    PostgreSQL SQL/Oracle Database


Salary Range: 103700 - 155500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
