The Threat Products and Services is responsible for the development and delivery of high-fidelity threat modeling products in support of MDA and MDA’s Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Missile Modeling Engineer role serves as a developer and verifier of kinematic threat models developed to support MDA. This position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for developing high fidelity ballistic missile and advanced threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/framework/media. Must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be able to research, interpret and verify parameters required to build, replicate, and propagate missile or space launch trajectories to include staging, debris, counter measures and RV / payload traits. Must be able to apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to ensure the accurate portrayal of expected missile or space launch behavioral characteristics during all phases of powered and un-powered flight. The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team and meet time critical delivery schedules.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or Math
  • Must have knowledge and experience modeling and verifying Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (HGVs)
  • Programming background to include languages such as MATLAB and Python
  • Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment and able to lend aid and lead when required
  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience using Threat Generator (TG) programming language to create and prove kinematic models
  • Operational knowledge of Threat Generator External (TGx), as well as the missile database required to effectively use TGx
  • Previous experience using Tex typesetting to create extensive verification documents
  • Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
  • Previous experience with modeling flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance is highly desirable
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory generation, counter measures, and debris is a plus
  • Familiarity with the Missile Defense Agency's and Ballistic Missile Defense System's mission
  • Current Linux system experience, with ability to expand knowledge
  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
