SBIRS (Space-Based Infrared System) is looking for a Principal Test Engineer/Space Systems Operator to support the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) product line under the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract. This work is performed at Schriever SFB in Colorado Springs, CO.

The OPIR is responsible for the development, test, and operation of simulated and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) representations of satellite sensors and related systems for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Ballistic Missile Defense System Test and Exercises.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operating the SBIRS mission software, driver software, and system support scripts
  • Mission support with focus on early warning and ballistic missile defense.
  • Test activities including requirements verification, integration of complex systems, scenario generation, test case development, and data collection.
  • This position is primarily 1st shift (business hours), but does require occasional off hours shift work about 20% of the year.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.; or 9 years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Strong interpersonal skills including technical writing and presentations
  • Ability to adapt, excellent communication skills, and be a team player
  • Successfully perform in a production/operational environment
  • Competent in standard Microsoft Office Products
  • Active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge/experience of SBIRS mission software and its operation
  • Mobile Ground, Satellite, Missile Warning, and/or Missile Defense domain experience
  • Knowledge in scripting to automate tasks as required/necessary
  • Experience with scripting bash and Python in Linux
  • Knowledge/experience with Linux data systems and terminal interfaces
  • Familiarity with U.S. Air Force space systems and organizations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS Security Clearance

Salary Range: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
