Peraton has ongoing work with the Department of Defense to provide research and innovation to the Military Services. This research pertains to multiple areas, but may include Service member wellness, suitability for Military Service, evaluation of interventions, and implementation and evaluation of automated solutions to staffing, manning, and other human resource data systems. We are currently seeking a Manager of Behavioral Research. This position will entail work in support of a wide range of applied behavioral science research initiatives in the Federal government. * Remote/teleworking is possible and the on-site work location is in Seaside, CA. Roles & Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and conduct research using behavioral science principles, methodologies, and technologies in an applied governmental setting.
  • Oversee and assist in development of research designs, literature reviews, collection of field data through interviews and focus groups, and statistical or descriptive analyses.
  • Support and develop results of research through peer-reviewed publications, briefings and technical reports.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to ensure quality, timeliness, and accuracy of research products.
  • Regularly interface with Military customers and consumers to meet their requirements, and assist in implementation of research findings and products.
  • Complete routine managerial functions such as project review, human resources actions, performance appraisals, and career development.
  • Make thoughtful and reasonable decisions.
  • Clearly communicate with team members.
  • Be professional in taking management actions and communicating actions to team members.
  • Ability to develop personal work plans and work independently.
  • Ability to think independently to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
 

Basic Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Science field such as Psychology, Sociology, or Criminal Justice and five (5) years’ experience in applied research environment (research conducted in educational setting will be considered); PhD and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated strength in analytical skills, organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a strong sense of time management and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and hold a Top Secret government clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Behavioral Science field STRONGLY preferred.
  • Experience working with Military Human Resources or Research programs.
  • Experience with government technical reports, research reports, or other written research results as primary author.
  • Exposure to data science/"big data" capabilities, techniques, and approaches such as ETL, R, Random Forest, etc.
  • Current U.S. Government Security Clearance (issued within past 5 years).
  • Experience managing or supervising personnel or projects.
  • Experience working in applied, Government research settings.
  • Demonstrated experience providing project briefings to Government representatives.
  • Working knowledge of and experience conducting analysis using SPSS or R.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality in scientific work.
  • Ability to address client concerns and coordinate with the client on changes in scope of work.
  • Ability to work in a team setting with scientists, technical writers, information technology specialists, policymakers, and government stakeholders.
