We are looking for you to join our team as a Turbine Design Engineering Manager 2 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. What you’ll get to do:

The Turbine Design Engineering Manager 2 is responsible for providing functional leadership and direction of the Turbine Design and Support Group which consists of a staff of approximately 10 to 12 Turbine Design engineers.  Responsibilities include leading a diverse team of engineers in the areas of Turbine Development design and development and engineering support of development testing and manufacturing of turbines used for Naval Propulsion and Power Generation.  The position responsibilities also include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement for the team.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group
  • Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
  • Increasing turbine design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring
  • Balancing employee needs with business goals
  • Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group
  • Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process
  • Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 9 years of engineering experience; OR a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 7 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 5 years of engineering experience.   
  • US Citizenship, with the ability to receive DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
  • Strong fundamentals in Design Engineering for Rotating Machinery
  • Experience in technical, program, project, or functional/people management
  • Production issues resolution
  • Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution
  • Understanding of turbine principals of operation and design
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements development, or technical project management experience preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
  • Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks
  • Experience with proposals and Earned Value

Salary Range: 127800 - 191600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
