Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located at Sunnyvale, CA.

The Supplier Quality Engineer will support the Supplier Performance Management (SPM) organization within the Marine Systems business unit at the Sunnyvale California location; a key element of the Maritime/Land

Systems & Sensors (MLSS) Division. Marine Systems designs, builds, tests, and supports Power & Propulsion Systems and Launch Systems for the US Navy and allies of the US. Relocation assistance may be available. Flex work arrangement and teleworking may be considered and travel is expected up to 70%, but will need to be able to come into an NGMS campus as needed. Preferred location is in Sunnyvale, San Diego or Woodland Hills, CA.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Specification Compliance Reviews.
  • Perform First Article Inspections per ISO 9001 and hardware Source Inspections.
  • Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing and engineering personnel to identify root cause and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
  • Document part non-conformances based on information provided by suppliers.
  • Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure the supplier's processes are robust and capable.
  • Analyze part drawings and specifications and flow down quality requirements to suppliers via Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders.
  • Work with key suppliers to ensure they are performing well and their capacity and capability are adequate to deliver products to specifications and on time.
  • Perform Supplier performance management by analyzing performance data, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Possess strong communication skills (both oral and written) which will be necessary to support the assignment and reports.
  • Be able to analyze and present data to SPM Management and Quality & Mission Excellence Director.
  • Provide supplier quality guidance and support to projects and processes.
  • Establish positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

Minimum requirements:

  • STEM Degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Material Science , Technology or Math. or any other related STEM degrees from an accredited university.
  • Experience in GD&T and drawing interpretation.
  • Minimum 9 + years of related experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, quality engineering, supplier quality or Supply Chain environments.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50-70% of the time.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System certification process, GD&T, Machining processes, various manufacturing processes, and welding.
  • Experience with Mechanical products manufacturing processes
  • Experience in manufacturing special processes
  • Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Presentation and data packaging skills
  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Familiarity with ASNT Standard Topical Outlines for Qualification of (NDT) Nondestructive Testing
  • Experience with MIL-STD-271, MIL-STD-2035, & MIL-STD-278
  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications
  • Experience with statistical process control, auditing to ISO 9001
  • Experience with measurement analysis methods.
  • PMP trained or certified
  • ASQ CQA (Certified Quality Auditor)
  • M.S. in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • MBA with Supply Chain focus or M.S. in Supply Chain Management is a plus.
  • ASQ Certified.
  • NDT II or NDT III certifications.
  • Supplier quality and Source Inspection experience is a plus
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
  • Deep Experience in machining, welding, NDT, coating.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Superb communication, people and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Excel/pivot tables and data analysis.
  • Must be able to analyze supplier’s quality trends and respond accordingly via SCARS or Audits.
  • Must have Strong communication and leadership skills. The Candidate must be able to work with multiple teams and be able to accommodate various styles in communications. Must be very customer oriented with great sense of urgency.
  • Must be independent and able to work with no or little supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain a very positive relationship with internal teams and external team especially with Suppliers.
  • Must be able to review drawings and 3D models to understand the parts and how they are made.
  • Must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and at times in an ambiguous environment.

Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
