Our Mission Systems Sector has an opening for Maintenance Mechanics to work in our Manufacturing organization. This position will be located in Sunnyvale, CA.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

·       Diagnose and determine cause and location of failures and malfunctions and perform the operations necessary to repair, rebuild, replace equipment, components and systems on machine tools, equipment, stationary engines and rolling stock where methods, tools and instructions are normally not provided.

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

 

·       Machine tools, such as lathe, mill, drill press and power saw. Automatic testing instruments, such as computerized diagnostic devices, dwell, tachometer, timing light and volt meter. Various hand tools and measuring instruments, such as, wrenches, torque wrench, micrometers, dial indicators, theodolite, optical beaming equipment, laser interferometer, safety equipment, etc.

 

MATERIAL:

 

·       Ferrous and non ferrous materials, pipe, bearings, lubricating and cooling liquids, automobiles, trucks, fork trucks, stationary engines, locomotives and mobile cranes. Various manual and CNC/DNC machine tools, hydraulic systems, replacement parts, engines, transmissions, differentials, batteries, etc.

 

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:

 

Direct lower level employee assigned to assist with maintenance duties.

 

WORKING PROCEDURE:

 

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

 

1.     Receive work assignment from supervision.

2.     Read and follow safety regulations, work authorizations, specifications and service manuals.

3.     Diagnose equipment, component and system failures and malfunctions and identify defective parts.  Use special test equipment as required.

4.     Plan the sequence of operations and methods to be used for complete and/or partial repair, rebuilding/ replacement and adjust a variety of machine tools, equipment, stationary engines and rolling stock for optimum performance.

5.     Diagnose and determine cause and location of facility piping failures using leak detecting equipment, evacuate system and repair or replace piping, fittings, washers, and valves as necessary. Troubleshoot and repair deficiencies in facility fire suppression system. Cut, thread, bend, weld, fit, and assemble pipe as required. Open clogged drains as required.

6.     Install plumbing fixtures by bolting to the floor or wall, adjusting float and valves, and connecting water and sewer lines. Diagnose and determine cause of improperly functioning plumbing fixtures and replace broken or worn parts.

7.     Install gas burners and adjust for proper air and gas mixture.

8.     Operate welding equipment and use carbon arc, heli arc, air arc, etc., to deposit single and multiple layers of weld, in any position, to join materials or build up surfaces on worn parts. Work at elevated levels on cranes and structures.

9.     Remove and replace defective parts or make or repair parts by setting up and operating various machines to turn, bore, drill, mill and tap to size.

10.  Repair, pumps and tires. Fill with oil or other fluids as required. Level, scrape and align ways, beds and spindles and realign tailstocks.

11.  Make, install and scrape bearings requiring precise and accurate workmanship.

12.  Maintain inventory of frequently used parts, such as, bearings, seals, plugs, hoses, clamps, wire valves, water pumps, voltage regulators, fluids and fittings.

13.  Maintain and repair lubricating, hydraulic and cooling systems oh machine tools, equipment, stationary engines and rolling stock by checking and replenishing fluid, setting and adjusting for proper flow rates and performance. Understand and conform to applicable regulatory regulations as related to handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.

14.  Check machine, equipment, stationary engines, compressors, abrasive blast equipment and rolling stock for proper operation in accordance with preventive maintenance programs and schedules. Clean, check and replace automotive batteries. 

15.  Check work, fits, wear and operation using measuring instruments, tools, gauges, etc.

16.  Mount and level machines tools by placing on previously located studs by shimming under pads as required.

17.  Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

18.  Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

19.  Perform work of equal or lower skill as required.
