Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Power Electronics Group is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for the development and ongoing support of new and existing electrical designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy.  The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems. Additionally the candidate designs electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for Department of Defense, commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.  The Power Electronics Group consists of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineers with focus on Control Systems and Electromagnetic Design.  The Power Electronics Group is one facet of the Hardware Engineering community here at Northrop Grumman Sunnyvale which also includes Mechanical Design, Thermal and Structural Analysis, and Materials Analysis to name a few.  Our engineers find professional fulfillment in leading teams, performing cutting-edge research, and being in the forefront of the design process through our partnership with the program office business leadership. We are seeking an Electrical/Power Electronics Design Engineer with knowledge of and experience with circuit design/analysis and power electronics design to military, space, or aerospace standards.  In addition the candidate should be familiar with testing and troubleshooting of these designs from a validation perspective.  These components are integrated into larger electric machine systems and in that vein it is desired for the prospective candidate to have knowledge/experience of electrical testing to characterize machine performance, design for EMI/EMI test experience, and control systems experience. Basic Qualifications for an Principal Electrical Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 years related experience; Master’s in Electrical Engineering with 3 years related experience; PhD in a Electrical Engineering with no related experience
  • Circuit Design and Analysis ability and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits
  • Power Electronics design experience
  • Demonstrated capability to perform assignments on time and within budget
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 7 years related experience; Master’s in Electrical Engineering with 5 years related experience; PhD in a Electrical Engineering with 3 years related experience
  • Circuit Design and Analysis ability and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits
  • Power Electronics design experience
  • Demonstrated capability to perform assignments on time and within budget
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of work experiences with DOD related products
  • PCB/CCB design ability and experience
  • Experience with Electromagnetic Interference testing and design for mitigation
  • MATLAB/Simulink proficiency
  • C/C++/C# proficiency
  • Understanding of FPGA concepts and programming
  • Experience working with Large Scale Rotating Electric Machinery
  • Control system design, modeling, and tuning
  • Electrical testing of electric machines and associated insulation system including but not limited to SSFR, Source Impedance, IR, PD, etc
  • Current DOD secret security clearance
