In 2017, Northrop Grumman Australia was awarded a contract to perform the acquisition, construction and support of the second satellite ground station in the east of Australia. The contract will also deliver an integrated wideband SATCOM network management system to improve robustness, capacity and efficiency of the ADF SATCOM capability.

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to manage a small engineering team and provide engineering oversight and support across the greater project team.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Perform systems analysis and design;

  • Maintain requirements baselines and manage interfaces;

  • Write engineering and analysis papers, and reports;

  • Conduct and document technical trade studies;

  • Review, contribute, and/or lead, technical and gate reviews (internal and external);

  • Review analysis papers, design documentation and test documentation;

  • Provide Systems Engineering support to the wider project as required;

  • Collaborate with greater project team and provide mentorship to junior engineers

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Experience in the conduct of Systems Engineering for Projects

  • Knowledge and working experience of requirements management tools (DOORs preferred)

  • Demonstrated communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Must be an Australian citizen with a current Negative Vetting 1 Australian Government Security Clearance.

Desired experience

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) certification, or ability to achieve Chartered Professional Engineer certification

  • Qualifications and training in Systems Engineering

  • Experience with the INCOSE systems engineering methodology.

  • Experience in agile methodologies and execution

  • Experience with system safety of complex systems

  • Experience mentoring engineering teams, to include organising, prioritising and scheduling work assignments in Defence Capability Acquisition Projects

  • Experience in leading and interfacing with teams over disparate locations

  • Experience working with, or for, Defence System Program Offices (SPO)

  • Experience in Satellite Communications and/or Operations

Note: As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian Citizens. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable, as such your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
