Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is in need of an Engineering Technician - Level 2/3 to support the Propulsion Systems & Controls (PS&C) operating unit. The position will be located in our Elkton, Maryland facility.
Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. The Engineering Technician offers essential technical assistance to engineers across various tasks. This role involves collecting, organizing, formatting, and analyzing technical data, including laboratory results and modifications to engineering designs. The technician is responsible for creating engineering documentation, reports, and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics. They perform complex mathematical calculations using established formulas and conduct preliminary data analyses based on provided guidelines, focusing on aspects like trajectory adequacy and model dimensional consistency. Proficient in using personal computers, the technician develops documentation and reports, and may also conduct tests and record data to support engineering evaluations. Additional responsibilities may include sample preparation, assembly and disassembly of rocket motors, propellant mixing and machining, as well as assisting with 3D printing operations.
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications Engineering Technician - Level 2 :
This position emphasizes skills and experience. Will consider the following: High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications Engineering Technician - Level 3 :
This position emphasizes skills and experience. Will consider the following: High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 4 years of related experience
Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge or experience with explosives or energetic assembly and test
Capable to safely operate equipment that is designed or modified for the build and test solid rocket motors
Assembly, disassembly, processing, repairing and testing of small solid rocket motors and other mechanical or electrical motor assemblies is a plus
