Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is looking for a Principal Military Trainer to serve as the Joint Event Support Team (JEST) Lead in our expanding team of diverse professionals in Suffolk, Virginia. In this role, the JEST Lead provides essential support to the Joint Staff (JS), J7 Deputy Directorate for Joint Training (DDJT), Joint Exercise Division (JExD) event planning teams, assisting with the planning and execution of Combatant Command (CCMD) exercises. The selected candidate will lead one of the various CCMD JEST Teams, engaging in preparatory and support activities throughout the exercise Joint Event Life Cycle (JELC). This includes organizing planning conferences, conducting academic seminars, executing events, and performing post-event analysis. The JEST Lead works closely with active military officers (O-5 through O-7), government civilians (GS 13 through GS 15), and various stakeholders within the JS J7 DDJT and supported CCMD.
Responsibilities:
Acts as the JEST Lead to provide planning, management, liaison, budgeting, and coordination for assigned exercises / events, the joint training system, and special projects
Serves as the alternate point of contact to the JS J7 DDJT JExD Desk Officer and / or Event Planner for contractor support to assigned exercises / events
Builds exercise planning schedules, forecasts labor hours and travel cost, assists in the development of exercise / event budgets, and facilitates as well as monitors the JELC progress
Develops and maintains the CCMD JELC calendar, coordinates team member assignments, deployment, and assists functional area support planners as required
Becomes intimately familiar with the supported organization, JELC processes, and contract deliverables to successfully design, plan, prepare, execute, and assess supported exercises/events
Travels to other locations within the supported organization’s area of responsibility
Basic Qualifications:
One of the following:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional leadership experience
Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional leadership experience
Minimum of 3-Star Joint or Service operational experience to include combat, combat support, and combat service support operations
Experience with exercises at levels comparable to Joint Task Force, Army Corps, Numbered Air Forces, and Numbered Fleet; specifically, the planning, design, and execution and assessment of exercises
The ability to: prepare and conduct seminars / work groups; conduct training in large and small groups; conduct post exercise analysis
Ability to travel to both CONUS and OCONUS locations in support of the task order (up to 25% of the time)
Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret / Sensitive Comparative Information (TS / SCI)
Have a current U.S. Passport or ability to obtain a Passport
Ability to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia
Preferred Qualifications:
Active U.S. DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance
Joint Forces Staff College or Professional Military Education (PME) II graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College or an equivalent service / agency school program
Familiarity with the Joint Staff (JS) Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC)
Experience with Combatant Command or joint staff operational planning, training, and exercise efforts at the strategic and operational level
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
Proven experience collaborating with senior military and government officials
