Do you have a flare for creating engaging, easily consumable content? Are you an experienced writer with the ability to translate technical content into easy to read material?

Due to business growth, Northrop Grumman are looking for a proposal writer to join our Business Development and Capture team. The Proposal Writer role is a key role in delivering efficient and effective winning proposals within Northrop Grumman’s growth plans, enabling our managers and technical specialists to focus on developing winning solutions while adding polish, shape and consistency to our written submissions.

The Role:

The Proposal Writer will be responsible for converting rough drafts of technical and business material to coherent, well written, accurate and convincing proposal content, white papers, presentations or marketing communications. Working closely with bid specialists, the Proposal Writer will operate hand in glove with the Graphic Designer to integrate the various elements of the submission to create customer facing materials that communicate Northrop Grumman’s unique capabilities to our customers.

Working across all of our customer account areas you will be responsible for supporting bids in the fields of next generation air and maritime capabilities, cyber security, communications, radar and command and control, ranging from small study or research openings to significant size and scale multi-million pound, multi-year deals. The successful candidate will have a reasonable working knowledge of information systems, electronics and security and defence equipment to enable the editing and improvement of the draft material to be performed.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with subject matter experts  to assimilate, review and develop compelling content;
  • Ensure resulting re-work continues to meet specific tender requirements and is consistent throughout the documentation
  • Articulate and integrate themes and messaging though storyboarding and format, layout and graphics
  • Assist the Proposal Manager in the collation and creation of the tender submission volumes in a timely manner
  • Work with  dedicated BD&C team to continuously improve content, maintaining a record of exemplar content in support of future submissions and opportunities
  • Track and report on status or completion of sections or documents
  • Support the wider BD team as well as functional areas in the creation of quality written content to support presentations and marketing material

Essential Requirements:

  • A background in professional writing, or experience in an equivalent role
  • Experience within the engineering and technology industry preferable
  • Highly articulate, with ability to create content that engages at all levels
  • Collaborative individual with the confidence and integrity to earn internal stakeholders respect and support
  • Highly motivated, organized and proactive self-starter
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • MS Office competence
  • Working to deadlines and across multiple proposals at any one time

Desirable Requirements:

  • Defence or government proposal experience
  • Experience of Shipley Proposal Process
  • APMP

Additional Information:

  • Travel requirements: Occasional UK travel may be required to attend team/customer meetings and training activities
