Northrop Grumman’s Chief Data Office is seeking a Database Administration Manager to lead a team of approximately 20 database professionals. The qualified applicant will be responsible for managing and mentoring each professional and ensuring successful completion of their statement of work as well as collaborating with sectors, business process owners, PMO leaders, and other key stakeholders to build, deploy and maintain database capabilities based on ongoing and emerging customer needs. They will also shape the future direction of database management software (DBMS) strategies and corresponding technology roadmaps.

This position can be performed as a virtual telecommuter.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in database technology, stay up to date on current database best practices, and possess effective interpersonal and communication skills, problem solving abilities, and innovative thought leadership.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Meet business needs by managing a team of professional database administrators and data scientists to consistently deliver quality solutions on time and within budget and scope

  • Continue the ongoing organizational transformation of implementing Agile, DevOps, and automation wherever possible

  • Actively drive the DBMS lifecycle through requirements analysis, feasibility estimates, design, code, documentation, testing, implementation, and support

  • Oversee the database processes using industry best practices

  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, development activities, and mentoring of database professionals

  • Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities; pinpoint and resolve problems in early project stages to avoid cost/time expenditures

  •  Ensure appropriate security controls are built into all databases

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology roadmaps

Basic Qualifications:


To be considered for this position, candidates must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant professional experience or master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. 

  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan, and execute work tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality results

  • Demonstrated ability to drive a culture of quality and personal accountability through an organization

  • Experience leading in a matrixed environment

  • Experience leading a virtual workforce

  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies including SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work equally well in self-managed and team-based Agile/Scrum projects.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or relevant discipline

  • Experience with multiple DBMS technologies including SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB 

  • Knowledge of key technical trends including, but not limited to:
    o     NoSQL database technology
      o    Cloud native database and database as a service (e.g., RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, Azure SQL, Atlas)
      o    In-memory database technology (e.g., Hana)
      o    Cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud)
      o    Database Encryption, at rest and in transit

  • Relevant Agile certifications (e.g., SAFe, SCRUM, etc.)

  • Relevant Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals)

  • Experience developing and leading high performing teams

  • Understanding of Northrop Grumman database standards, policies, and practices as well as personnel policies and practices


Salary Range: $118,600 USD - $178,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
