Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Research Development Engineer to work with our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Northern Virginia. The selected candidate be responsible for initiating, designing, executing and documenting research projects as well as developing/fabricating the resulting products for our customers.What qualification’s you’ll need to have in order to be considered:
  • An active TS/SCI with current Polygraph is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a visual arts discipline, plus 5 years of related experience (4 years of additional experience in lieu of degree). Or, 3 years of related experience with a Master’s degree. Or, 0 years with a PhD.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with high-resolution 3D modeling, modeling, texturing and painting; photogrammetric and laser scanning; digital design; prototyping; and/or other computer-aided graphic design.
  • 3D modelling expertise is a must and experience should include: Managing multiple SubTools, Managing Topology with Dynamesh and Zremesher, Ability to create custom alphas for textures and brushes, and Working with UV Master.
  • Ability to work with 3D models across multiple applications including such as ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Understanding of lighting, color, material, orientation, depth, visual perspective, proportion and composition, including a good feeling for proportions, anatomy, musculoskeletal function, as well as finite details in human skin, hair, and clothing texture.
  • Demonstrated artistic hand skill ability with 5 years’ experience sculpting, carving, assembling, modeling, and casting, using a variety of additive and subtractive techniques and tools.
  • Materials Science familiarity related to structure and composition of materials, tailoring properties to create custom or new materials with specific properties for specific uses.
  • Handles critiques of individual work as well as able to provide constructive criticism of co-workers and/or team work.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to coordinate interdepartmental activities across multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Experience in processes common in a prototyping facility
  • Willingness to learn and keep current with new software and materials science techniques

Salary Range: 101400 - 152200

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
