We are looking for you to join our team as an Embedded Software Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA. As an Embedded Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You’ll get to Do:

In this position you will be developing embedded software for our cutting edge Digital Cockpit and Navigation systems. As a member of our world class software development team, you will have opportunities to improve and expand your capabilities in software design and code development. You will also have opportunities to perform software and system integration on state of the art hardware, learn new software development techniques such as Model Based Engineering (MBE), and work in an agile and collaborative development environment.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Level or a Sr. Principal Level. 

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer are:

  • Bachelors degree with 5 years of hands on Software Development experience; 3 years of experience with Masters; 0 Years with a PhD.
  • Experience translating software requirements into software design, producing software code from designs, and testing and debugging software code
  • Must have demonstrated use of high level programming languages such as C/C++, Python and Algorithm Development
  • Experience with using GIT ClearQuest and other software management and workflow automation tools.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer are:

  • Bachelors degree with 9 years of hands on Software Development experience; 7 years of experience with Masters; 4 Years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience translating software requirements into software design, producing software code from designs, and testing and debugging software code
  • Must have demonstrated use of high level programming languages such as C/C++, Python and Algorithm Development 
  • Experience with using GIT ClearQuest and other software management and workflow automation tools.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the use of Model Based Engineering (MBE) tools such as SCADE or Matlab/Simulink to develop and test real-time safety-critical model based applications. 
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with other development organizations such as Systems Engineering and Integration and Test. 
  • Experience with Object-Oriented development and requirements development in DOORS
  • Experience with software test tools such as LDRA or Vectorcast.
  • Familiarity with languages such as Python and the automation of requirements based testing
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an open collaborative environment as a member of a software development team. 
  • Experience in Simulink.


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
