Northrop Grumman is seeking Technical Editor and Writer for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems Sector in Tampa, FL.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems, Engineering & Sciences (E&S).

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Edit and format IT-related technical documents such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical procedures, programming documents, operational guidelines, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Create, edit and format Atlassian Confluence pages, Arsenale Dataplane reports, Jira queries and filters.
  • Create and edit custom fillable PDF forms using Adobe Pro or Adobe Distiller
  • You will acquire subject knowledge by interviewing operators/developers, attending program and technical meetings and referring to technical documentation.
  • You will work with team leads understand current mission objectives and scheduled work as well as emerging concepts and technologies.
  • This position is responsible for producing monthly and quarterly Government required documentation including creating, writing, rewriting, editing, and formatting PowerPoint Presentations, Microsoft Word reports, Microsoft Projects, and updating Microsoft Access databases.
  • Conduct quality review of all materials to ensure both compliance and standardization.  Individual must have a solid understanding of Department of Defense processes and be able to operate in those environments.
  • Create visualizations including dashboards and views using system monitoring tools such as vRealize Operations (vROPs), SolarWinds or Kibana.

Basic Qualifications

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2023.
  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2023.
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Atlassian Confluence, Jira, and Arsenale Dataplane
  • Experience or willingness to learn working with system monitoring and polling systems such as SolarWinds, ELKStack, or VMware to create dashboards and reports
  • Functional experience working with Department of Defense standards for documentation Intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Excel to include creating a variety of charts, graphs, and pivot tables to effectively communicate data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Pro or Distiller.
  • Possess superior communication, editing, and writing skills
  • Possess the positive attitude and team spirit needed to succeed in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to compose materials such as detailed reports, work‐related manuals, publications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to identify and use proper grammar
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously

Intern Pay Range:

Bachelor’s: $20.75 to $25.75 per hour

Master’s: $30.50 to $32.25 per hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

Salary Range: $21 USD - $26 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
