Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Strategic Planner/ Principal Strategic Planner within the Strategic Planning & Development organization, reporting to the Sr. Manager of Strategic Investments. The selected applicant will become a trusted member of a team responsible for developing and managing the Sector’s Capital investment portfolio, providing relevant financial and strategic analyses to senior management, coordinating investment plans with cross-functional teams, and enabling NGMS’ core objectives through the innovative and strategy-driven application of investment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the key value drivers and industry dynamics of the Aerospace and Defense sector, the ability to self-start in a fast-paced organization, and the skills to evaluate and assess investment priorities and options in order to optimally shape the NGMS portfolio. The successful candidate supports the Strategic Investment team to develop portfolio strategies that best position NGMS for long-term value creation.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

·         Develop and administer the Sectors multi-year Capital plan on a continuous, agile planning cadence

·         Conduct strategic assessments of financial plans, markets, competitors, pipeline, etc. to support the development and shaping of the Sector’s multi-year investment portfolio in alignment with overall NGMS strategy

·         Support new development and maintenance of capabilities, strategic frameworks, and tools to prioritize, de-emphasize, shape, and manage the overall portfolio

·         Use quantitative methods including modeling to assess investment scenarios, proactively manage investment execution, and to support decision making

·         Support financial and business case analyses of proposed Division investments across the Sector

·         Develop presentations/briefings to executive leadership and senior stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

Strategic Planner

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience in strategic assessment, strategy development, or financial analysis
  • Intermediate MS Office and Excel skills
  • Experience working with cross functional teams
  • U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Principal Strategic Planner

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Previous experience in strategic assessment, strategy development, or financial analysis
  • Intermediate MS Office and Excel skills
  • Experience working with cross functional teams
  • U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in strategic planning, portfolio development, and/or strategic assessment
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry
  • Able to interact at all levels of the organization in a professional, organized manner and to contribute in an agile planning and execution framework to projects that have top management visibility
  • Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Advanced MS PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Experience in data analytics and visualization, including relevant tools, languages, and environments (e.g. Tableau, Qlik, R, Python, SQL, etc.)
  • Able to present to and engage with senior management
  • Experience making venture capital and/or sophisticated investment allocation decisions
  • Current active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance

This position reports to Linthicum, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Falls Church, VA, VA, USA.


Salary Range: $73,600 USD - $110,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $90,600 USD - $136,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
