Northrop Grumman Space Systems designs, builds and delivers space related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; strategic deterrents; satellites and associated space components and services; payload and ground systems; and other strategic space-based initiatives. 

We are currently seeking a Financial Analyst 3/4 to join the Space Sector Financial Reporting Team in our Dulles VA office.  This position will report to the Manager of Sector Financial Reporting and be a key contributor to the month-end financial close process, quarterly deliverables for the Company’s SEC filings, and the maintenance of the Sector’s financials in both the ERPs and forecasting tool. This position will work closely with Sector FP&A and Technical Accounting, Division Planning and Reporting, Shared Service Centers, and Corporate Financial Reporting.

Position Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Timely and accurate execution of the monthly/quarterly close process at Space Sector.
  • Prepare journal entries on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Ensure timely completion of quarterly/yearend deliverables supporting SEC filings (ASC 606 disaggregated revenues, 3FF, and others).
  • Effectively liaise between division/business POC’s and the Sector Financial reporting.
  • Present and communicate monthly financial results to Sector leadership.
  • Maintain Sector financial actuals within the Cognos financial planning tool.
  • Validate and maintain the accuracy of financial actuals within financial planning tool.
  • Collaborate with the tools team and business POC’s in order to troubleshoot system issues and reconciliation issues.
  • Develop new dashboards for Sector reporting.
  • Participate in the Corporation’s implementation of new versions of accounting software.
  • Validate/test data migration.
  • Ensure report functionality.
  • Develop new automated processes.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis as required.
  • Problem solving on issues discovered during close processes or from questions raised to the Sector Reporting Team.
  • Track high-level entries for appropriate adjustments and reversals.
  • Implement process improvements on close and reporting processes.
  • Provide support and respond to questions from external auditors.
  • Perform miscellaneous financial analysis as required.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or related field) and 6+ years of relevant work experience – OR – a Master’s degree or CPA and 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Public Accounting IF directly relevant may count for up to an additional year of experience for each year of relevant experience.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or related field) and 6+ years of relevant work experience – OR – a Master’s degree or CPA and 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Public Accounting IF directly relevant may count for up to an additional year of experience for each year of relevant experience.

Additional Basic qualifications for both levels:

  • Prior experience with Deltek Costpoint, SAP, and/or IBM Cognos Analytics.
  • Data and financial analysis skills, including use and understanding of spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, yet functions well in a team environment.
  • US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GAAP accounting proficiency and research experience.
  • Proficient data and financial analysis skills, including use and understanding of spreadsheets.
  • Experience focusing on continuous improvement and identifying efficiencies in recurring processes.


Salary Range: $107,000 USD - $160,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
