This position will allow for some telework, but candidates must be local to El Segundo, CA as there will be a need to go into the office a few times a week.

The Investment Trust & Administration ("ITA") team is responsible for oversight of over $75 billion in Trust assets for Northrop Grumman, including more than $35 billion in the DB pension plan. ITA is currently seeking an Investment Analyst in El Segundo, CA with a primary focus on Alternatives to help prudently invest the $10 billion Alternatives portfolio across a broad array of asset classes including private equity, private credit, real estate, real assets, and other alternatives. The portfolio invests globally in primary partnerships, separate accounts, commingled funds and co-investments alongside top General Partners in the world. The ITA team is staffed by a small and collaborative team of investment professionals with support from the broader Northrop Grumman organization.

The Investment Analyst will work alongside several senior investment professionals on the Alternatives team. The ideal individual will need to thrive working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while utilizing creative problem-solving skills in order to meet the objectives of the Trust. This role offers an opportunity for earlier-career investment professionals to gain broad-based experience in the investment management industry across various asset classes. The individual will be involved across all aspects of the investment process, including but not limited to:
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Portfolio Management

  • Monitor the investment activity of the portfolio while leveraging third-party administrators to provide accurate and timely information
  • Review performance, process, firm changes, and other areas as appropriate via manager meetings, conferences, and webcasts
  • Provide portfolio performance, benchmarking, and exposure analysis to senior investment professionals
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data for deliverables to the head of ITA and Investment Committee
  • Maintain internal Inbox and databases while seeking enhancement to portfolio monitoring tools
  • Assist Operations team with managing administrators, custodian, and auditors
     

Investment Due Diligence

  • Assist senior investment professionals in the full range of duties associated with underwriting investment opportunities
  • Analyze track record and provide attribution analysis of investment managers
  • Review deal documents and work with Legal and Compliance in negotiating terms in the limited partnership agreement
  • Conduct industry research to understand market dynamics, competitive landscape, and go-forward growth
  • Draft memos of intent, investment recommendation, and investment binders for final review by the head of ITA
  • Travel and attend annual manager meetings, due diligence sessions and industry conferences as needed
     

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field (business, economics, or similar quantitative field) with 3 years' of relevant experience; or 1 year with a Masters
  • Be local to and able to commute regularly (3x a week) on site to our office in El Segundo, CA
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects (often with aggressive timelines) in an efficient, committed, and effective manner
  • Proactive, self-starter that is highly motivated and embraces the responsibilities and expectations associated with being an ERISA investor
  • Strong quantitative skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible work hours to meet demands of a global portfolio. Department currently offers flexible work arrangements including 9/80 and other hybrid options
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
  • Conducts all activity in a manner consistent with Northrop Grumman’s business policies and procedures, including standards for business practices and ethics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passed Level I or higher of the CFA or CAIA
  • High proficiency in Excel with financial modeling skills
  • Knowledge of capital markets, including but not limited to Alternative investments (private equity, private debt, real estate, real assets, etc)
  • Experience with pension, endowment, foundation or other plan sponsor or asset owner

Salary Range: $68,100 USD - $102,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
