Northrop Grumman Space Systems seeks to fill the Sentinel Business Management Execution Director role, Director of Business Management 1, based out of our Roy, UT location.

Northrop Grumman was awarded a contract for the engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the Sentinel program in September 2020. A program of mega-project scale, competitive flexibility and digital transformation are key to delivering a weapon system that will continue to evolve to outpace the threat and achieve and be affordably maintained and sustained over the expected 75+ year life. The Sentinel program modernizes nearly every facet of the land leg of the nuclear triad, including:

  • Developing a new intercontinental ballistic missile, including guidance, three stages of propulsion, and a reentry vehicle, and building 600+ missiles (400 deployed + spares for testing)

  • Completely refurbishing 450 buried launch facilities (silos) spread across ~30,000 square miles in five states

  • Developing, building, and populating launch control centers, similar to heritage missile alert facilities, in the missile wings

  • Fielding new communications infrastructure and building/consolidating hundreds of support facilities, including for security, training, maintenance, and testing

The Sentinel Business Management Execution (BME) Business Management Director will have accountability for developing, delivering, maintaining, and continuously improving processes, infrastructure, tools, and training to maximize compliance, operational efficiency, and quality of business management operations for the Sentinel program. Working in conjunction with the program planning and program integration teams, the BME Director will ensure cost and schedule teams have the process documentation, tools, resources, infrastructure, and training to effectively and efficiently deliver EVMS and forecast data within a robust, complaint EVM environment. The BME Director will also be accountable for the integration of business management team data into usable information for key decisionmakers within the Sentinel program and into the IPMDAR monthly CDRL deliverable. The Sentinel BME director will also be responsible for Global Supply Chain (GSC) Business Management function to include Material Cost Management, Material Pricing, Subcontract Management Team Business Management team processes. The BME Director will also partner with internal surveillance functions to ensure a robust audit plan, based on a comprehensive risk assessment is executed in support of an unwavering business systems compliance posture. The BME Director leads the program level Business Management support to program management office business rhythms across operations, and functions driving sustained rigor and compliance for weekly, monthly, and quarterly processes. The BME Director will partner with Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) functional Business Management leadership to ensure required staffing, processes and infrastructure are available to efficiently execute Business Management scope on the contract. The BME Director works closely with all Sentinel Program entities to align Sentinel Business Management Operations with strategic priorities and tactical tasking directed by program leadership. This position reports to the Sentinel Program Business Manager.

Sentinel Business Management Execution Business Management Director responsibilities include:

  • Delivering process documentation, infrastructure, tools, and training to support all aspects of day-to-day Segment Business Management execution ensuring timely, accurate, and complete business data/information delivery to program and segment leadership enabling effective decision making

  • Direct teams developing, deploying, maintaining, and delivering continuous improvement to all aspects of a fully compliant EVMS implementation

  • Development of rigorous and comprehensive series of controls and verifications that Business Management processes in support of program objectives are effective in design, evolving to changing program needs, effective/useful in implementation, and delivering the intended outcomes

  • Ensure timely development, review, and delivery of a high quality IPMDAR monthly CDRL deliverable with continuous customer engagement to ensure delivered product supports the customer’s mission

  • Support alignment of staffing resource forecasts that leverage business management data to program level staffing demand signals across all labor disciplines

  • Oversee Business Management process development for effective participation on Supplier Management Teams and translation of Supplier/IWO business data into the NG Prime level business system

  • Oversee the program level GSC Business Management process development and  implementation to include material cost management, material pricing support, and Subcontract Management Team (SMT) support

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in defense, aerospace, or other relevant industry -OR- Master's degree and 8 years of experience in defense, aerospace, or other relevant industry

  • 3+ years leading and/or managing teams on complex projects

  • 3+ years leading business management teams in a fully compliant or deliberately tailored EVMS environment

  • Experience with the creation and quality assurance of customer financial deliverables

  • Experience with complex development programs with significant subcontractor and Inter/Intra company content

  • Experience with one or more aspect of the GSC Business Management function

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance and additional SAP accesses.  US citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, master’s degree in business related field or STEM field

  • Leadership experience in leading a effective, compliant material cost management function

  • Leadership experience with transition from development to production program phases

  • Experience with ICBM related programs and products

  • Ability to make tough, risk-based decisions and steer decisions based on evolving information

  • Possess an active DoD Secret level security clearance or higher clearance.


Salary Range: $160,400 USD - $240,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
