Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Technical Editor and Writer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What you’ll get to do: 

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Writes rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively using Extensible Markup Language (XML) and adhering to an S1000D specification and instructions to a United Sates Air Force (USAF) customer.
  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll bring these qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either as Technical Editor and Writer or Principal Technical Editor and Writer level.

  • Technical Editor and Writer - 3 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree; or 1 year experience with Master’s Degree. In lieu of formal degree, High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least 7 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Principal Technical Editor and Writer 6 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree; or 4 years experience with Master’s Degree. In lieu of formal degree, High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least 9 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards
  • Knowledge of DoD industry practices (TO 00-5-1, Mil-STD-38784, MIL-STD-3048, Mil-STD-1808). Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
  • 3+ / 5+ years’ experience writing XML or SGML
  • Current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain PAR
  • Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards
  • Knowledge of DoD industry practices (TO 00-5-1, Mil-STD-38784, MIL-STD-3048, Mil-STD-1808). Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
  • Current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain PAR

These qualifications would be nice to have:

  • Experience with the Eagle/EPS publishing system
  • Experience with Siemens PLM, Teamcenter and NX
  • Experience in utilizing the USAF Flight Manual or Maintenance Manual change process
  • Experience writing in XML/S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications/IETM/Data Module writing (Arbortext, EAGLE, XMetal, or similar program)
  • At least 4 years’ experience in an electronic/avionic field or in a Department of Defense (DoD) maintenance background.


Salary Range: $55,100 USD - $82,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $67,800 USD - $101,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
