The Mechanical Engineering group is hiring for a Manager Aeronautical Engineering 2 in our Mechanical Engineering team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility.

The Manager Aeronautical Engineering 2 will be responsible for managing technical, schedule, cost, as well as Mechanical Engineering resources.. This includes identifying and addressing program risks to ensure launch success, facilitating technical solutions based on heritage and similar vehicles, tracking the program schedule, and performing CAM duties.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize mechanical design and integration activities, as well as strong leadership skills
  • Lead by example, ensure proper cross-training of the team, and make sure the team understands the requirements of the Program and how they relate to the individual tasks that are being assigned to the team. This also includes having periodic meetings with the team to review the ME performance relative to the Program schedule
  • With little to no guidance, performs analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems.
  • Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
    Based on broadly defined problems, studies basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and applies the engineering principles involved to develop new designs
  • Anticipates customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs
  • Originates and develops constructive ideas. Consistently looks for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes
  • Perform highly complex engineering design, development, analysis, and test activities to support assigned projects
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
  • Assume CAM responsibilities and EVMS Reporting
  • Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project
  • Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
  • Support new business and prepare proposal material

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 9 years related engineering experience, or a Master's in STEM and 7 years related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years related engineering experience
  • Ability to travel 25% is required
  • Launch campaign field support is required at remote site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in STEM Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree
  • Demonstrated experience supporting integration / testing of flight hardware and oversight of technician work tasking is strongly desired
  • Active DOD Secret security clearance or higher

Salary Range: $127,700 USD - $191,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
