Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer – Data Processing to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals within our Test & Evaluation organization. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, you will be responsible for the generation of Instrumentation and Data Systems planning and process documentation in support of a Priority Win Capture program. This role will support the Instrumentation and Data Systems Manager during a large-scale capture program. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, electrical and mechanical design engineers, data management engineers, and integration/test engineers within Northrop Grumman.

**This role may be filled at either the Principal or Sr. Principal level, depending on a candidate’s qualifications**

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop data processing, storage, and access facilities/systems/tools
  • Work with engineers from the SIT&E IPT, test pilots, and other program IPT engineers to develop and refine instrumentation and data requirements for advanced labs, ground, and flight test articles
  • Develop instrumentation architectures and plans to meet requirements
  • Interface with Model Based Test & Evaluation engineering to integrate Model Based Engineering principles into the instrumentation and test data management systems that aligns with our corporate and customer digital transformation initiatives

Basic Qualifications (Principal):

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience, OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 0 years of related professional/military experience
  • Must have a background in Flight Test Instrumentation, System Test, or hardware/electrical design engineering experience
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline AND 9 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of related professional/military experience, OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience
  • Must have a background in Flight Test Instrumentation, System Test, or hardware/electrical design engineering experience
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design and operations of test data processing and management with traditional and cloud-based storage
  • Experience applying principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design and operations of flight and lab test instrumentation
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Active in-scope Top Secret clearance with current or previous Special Program Access.
  • Strong technical and leadership skills, excellent oral and written communications .


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
