We are looking for you to join our team as an Aeronautical Engineer/Principal Aeronautical Engineer based out of Ocean Springs, MS. As an Aeronautical Engineer/Principal Aeronautical Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. 

Northrop Grumman Marine Systems specializes in the development, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion, and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. We are seeking a Aeronautical Engineer/Principal Aeronautical Engineer with system level structural dynamic response experience to join our team. This position will be located in Ocean Springs, MS

Candidate will join the highly talented, motivated, and collaborative Modeling, Simulation, and Performance Analysis team, and will support the development of performance assessment models for surface and underwater missile launching systems.

The successful candidate will support current and future launcher programs on development and application of physics based modeling and simulation software using MATLAB, Python and C++.  Candidate may also assist in the development of structural dynamics and gas dynamics performance assessment models for missile launching systems. Models will have a focus on non-linear structural dynamics, gas dynamics, hydrodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid-structure interaction; elements required to accurately predict launch and shock performance. Candidate will also perform test data analysis for missile launch and shock tests. Candidate must be able to formally document results (e.g. technical reports, publications, presentations) and communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

Basic Qualifications for Aeronautical Engineer: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics or a closely related technical discipline with 2 years of relevant experience or a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics or a closely related technical discipline with no years of relevant experience.
  • Programming or software development experience in general engineering languages (i.e. MATLAB, C++, Fortran,  Python).
  • Strong writing and presentation skills are needed for documentation and technical exchange.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Aeronautical Engineer: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics or a closely related technical discipline with 5 years of relevant experience or a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics or a closely related technical discipline with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Programming or software development experience in general engineering languages (i.e. MATLAB, C++, Fortran,  Python).
  • Strong writing and presentation skills are needed for documentation and technical exchange.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Structural Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Test Data Reduction and Analysis.
  • Experience with fluid-structure interaction (FSI).
  • Experience with conjugate heat transfer.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB GUI Development.
  • Knowledge of SQL and ability to design relational database. Writing SQL Queries.
  • Knowledge of source control methods, such as SVN and/or Git.
  • Experience with computer clusters and parallel processing in Linux and Windows XP 64-bit environment.
  • Familiarity with MBE/MBSE concepts and tools.
  • Active security clearance.

Salary Range: $73,400 USD - $110,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
