Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Aircraft Lighting Principal Electrical Engineer/Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in subsystems design to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering Organization. These positions are located in Melbourne, FL.
Job Description:
- Develop fighter aircraft lighting requirements based on military specifications. This includes exterior lighting (anti-collision, navigation, formation, aerial refueling, etc…), interior lighting (footwell, map, entryway, etc…), landing lights, internal bay lighting, and lighting control and compatibility with night vision imaging systems.
- Layout lighting type, color, intensity, arrangement, and control with an understanding of installation and electrical power requirements.
- Responsible engineer activities, which include all aspects of sourcing and/or managing system/component design and development including trade studies, layouts, architecture definition support, system test & verification support, and troubleshooting. These activities may also include participating on a subcontractor management team and will act as the technical point of contact with suppliers for component development, qualification, and procurement.
- Facilitate design reviews with key stakeholders to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplish them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Engineer Electrical or a Sr. Principal Engineer Electrical level.
- For a Principal Electrical Engineer position, a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems, OR Master’s degree with 3 years of engineering experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems.
- For a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer position, a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 8 years of engineering experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems, OR Master’s degree with 6 years of engineering experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems.
- Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
- Experience with military fighter aircraft exterior and internal lighting specifications and design.
- Experience with military aircraft subsystem development, with requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration and test and verification for advance aircraft.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-3009
- Knowledge/experience with IR and visible light spectrums
- Previous experience troubleshooting / providing liaison experience in the lab and AC environment
