Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Chemical Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting our Dayton, OH. facility. We are a world-class manufacturer of composite structures, radomes, and antenna systems for military applications.  We design and manufacturer solutions for our war fighters to keep our country safe and maintain peace on a global scale.

The Chemical Process Engineer will be a subject matter expert in chemical processing and will implement and maintain chemical processes in support of chemical milling processes for circuit card manufacturing.  The individual selected for this role will use engineering discipline to ensure product quality, improve process efficiency, and increase throughput of both static bath and etch line processes.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that is able to perform moderately complex professional tasks. *This position will work a 1st shift, 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off and requires onsite presence due to the nature of the role. 

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Works on special projects to drive productivity, producibility, and waste reduction.
  • Collaborates with product engineering and program integrated product teams to ensure that customer requirements are achieved.
  • Establish and implement safety procedures; identify and review safety issues, review safety and accident reports, and assist in corrective actions.
  • Further standardize existing products and to support the scale-up process of new products meeting customer specifications and performance requirements.
  • Participate in planning of the utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve the efficiency of operations.
  • Coordinates or leads continuous improvement activities on assigned value stream.
  • Assists in troubleshooting issues that arise in chemical manufacturing.
  • Analyzing or obtaining analysis of processing chemistry to inform changes to improve quality and performance.
  • Improve first pass yield (FPY) and establish robust, standardized processes for existing products.
  • Create, modify, and maintain standard operating procedures for existing products, product modifications and new products.
  • Utilize expertise to formulate hypotheses and seek solutions to technical problems.
  • Works in partnership with Operators and other departments such as Research and Development (R & D), Quality Control (QC), and Technical Services.
  • Inputs into Manufacturing Bills of Material (MBOM), routings, Management of Change (MOC), and other technical documentation
  • Develop and provide training on process operating documents for production in cooperation with other internal departments, industry partners, and subject matter experts.
  • Develop and control processes in the chemical milling/etching work cell.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Science with 2 years’ experience, Master’s degree with 0 years’ experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a strong operations background
  • 2 years’ experience in a chemical production facility
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security clearance, including Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and/or an advanced degree in engineering and/or business management
  • Knowledge of equipment such as pumps, ovens, stirrers, dryers, and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Experience in chemical milling process

This position reports to Beavercreek, OH, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Kettering, OH, OH, USA.


Salary Range: $77,200 USD - $115,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
