Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to add a Principal/Sr. Principal Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer to its Specialty Engineering team located in either Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT in support of the Sentinel (GBSD) program. This position is for a systems engineer with experience in design for EMI/EMC compliance. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to various efforts within the E3 Design Support team including design reviews, analysis, and E3 CDRLs development.
The E3 engineer will review and provide critical, actionable feedback of system designs to design teams for various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). They should be able to develop, follow, and apply EMI/EMC technical principles, techniques, and concepts. The selected candidate will work under the direction of the E3 Design Support lead, and will contribute to the technical quality, development, and on-time delivery of E3 design CDRLs, along with supporting design reviews for multiple IPTs.
In this position, you will be expected to:
- Apply sound technical principles, theories, and concepts in EMI/EMC design.
- Work on a wide range of complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.
- Ensure systems and equipment meets MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464 and other compliance requirements.
- Have a firm knowledge in the design and implementation of EMI/EMC controls, to include transient suppression, filter design, circuit board and flextape layout, cable shield design, equipment housing design and system grounding principles.
- Provide sound technical guidance in system requirements development, management, analysis, and traceability, to translate customer requirements and CONOPS into systems requirements, and further allocate to lower-level requirements.
- Review and provide feedback of technical schematics, drawings, plans and/or specifications.
- Review and integrate work products developed by others.
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Engineer (T3) level or Sr Principal Engineer (T4) level.
- Principal Engineer (T3): Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 3 years of experience with Master's degree, 0 years of experience with PhD
- Sr. Principal Engineer (T4): Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 Years of related experience with Bachelor's degree; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
Required for Both Levels:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
- Sound working knowledge of MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464
- Familiarity with E3 CDRLs including EMI/EMC control plans, E3 Integration and Analysis Reports, and E3 Verification Procedures and Reports.
- Ability to meet program technical, cost, and schedule milestones.
- Experience supporting EMI design efforts with IPTs.
- Ability to communicate EMI design recommendations to IPT design team leads.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with EMI design support/analysis for EMI critical design features.
- Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on a missile program.
- Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on fixed ground installations.
- Prior experience in E3 related areas such as ESD, HERO, TEMPEST.
- Technical areas include Space and Launch Vehicles and associated Ground Control Systems.
- Experience in modeling of EM effects and use of EM effects simulation tools such as Spice, MATLAB, ANSYS HFSS/EMA3D/Maxwell, CST, or other codes.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
