Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is seeking two Functional Homeroom Section Managers to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The selected candidates will be supporting the functional homeroom in execution to their respective statement of work in the Vehicle Structures Design and Materials and Processes Department (VSDMP) as part of the South Bay Vehicle Engineering Directorate.   These leadership positions are located onsite in El Segundo, CA.

The selected candidates will support one of the two positions below:

  • Materials Process Development and Fabrication Laboratories (MPDFL) Section Manager:  Manages the MPDFL and will be responsible for daily operations of the laboratories for all NGAS programs. Will perform scheduling, prioritizing of workload, technician and engineer tasking, and technical oversight of the work product.  An understanding of materials and mechanical engineering is desired, including composites and coupon fabrication, bonding principles, coatings and sealants, and principles of mechanical testing.

  • Parts Management and Processes (PM&P) Standards Engineering Section Manager: Manages a team that provides a sector-wide commercial/common parts management capability that balances the needs for Program specialization, industry/regulation compliance and enterprise optimization.  The team’s objectives are to increase part re-use, reduce unique parts, and maximize communication when providing subject matter expert service to NGAS programs.

As a manager, you will be responsible for people, processes, tools, and technology to meet current and future needs for air vehicles.  You should demonstrate strong leadership ability and talent development skills to build diverse and inclusive teams including recruiting, coaching, managing and engaging employees.  You will challenge traditional ways of doing business and provide continuous improvement to support the statement of work to improve efficiency and speed without jeopardizing quality.  This is a dual role encompassing both functional management and technical performance on multiple programs.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage approximately 12 team members with disciplines in either materials and processes or mechanical engineering and electrical engineering

  • Set clear expectations for the team and achieve expected result

  • Ensure the teams are executing in compliance to local, state, and federal regulations in addition to supporting Northrop Grumman policies

  • Providing technical oversite to team and determine a long-term strategy for the team

  • Promote knowledge management and documentation such as process development, desktop work instructions, manual creation and may include part specifications, process specifications and part standards

  • Relationship management and collaborative skills to engage with business partners (i.e., Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Subcontractors, & Suppliers) to resolve technical or operational issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 9 years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree in relevant STEM discipline and 7 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in an aerospace environment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, in-scope DoD Secret clearance with current or previous access to Special Programs

  • Lab Experience or Original Equipment Manufacturer/Original Component Manufacturer (OEM/OCM) work experience with design, development, manufacture, and application of vehicles, materials, and parts

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with large aircraft programs

  • Strong relationships with Industry standards committees and working groups

  • Extensive knowledge of part selection & application at the system design level

  • Experience in laboratory environment and/or laboratory management

  • Experience with laboratory operations including scheduling, workload prioritization, technician and engineer tasking and technical oversite of work product

  • Experience in parts management and standardization with knowledge in industry requirements for parts management and standardization, preferred parts list, part specifications, part qualifications, quality control, non-conformances, and parts obsolescence

  • Knowledge of Industry Standards such as laboratory testing practices, fastening systems and applicable hardware, cable and wire harness fabrication processes, electrical testing processes, and electrostatic discharge processes


Salary Range: $134,600 USD - $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
