The Ground Systems Development Department (part of Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector) in Manhattan Beach, CA is seeking a talented Digital FPGA Design Engineer Lead. In this role, you will lead the development and integration of complex electronic test systems and electronic hardware units in support of space flight programs. You will act as the responsible design engineer (RDE) and FPGA Technical Lead of development on our program.

In this role, you will lead an electrical design team which is comprised of electrical hardware design engineers and other engineering functions, including: Flight Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Engineering, Software Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Program Management to meet schedule and technical requirements.

The electronic hardware development responsibilities include:

  • Developing system architecture

  • Detailed design

  • Performing customer briefings/reviews

  • Hardware test

  • Site integration

  • Post-delivery support

Primary deliverables are:

  • Flight electronics test systems

  • Satellite system operational ground-based hardware

To be successful in this position, you should have a broad range of experience with:

  • Leading small to large FPGA development teams - Design, simulation, integration, and test of Digital circuits

  • FPGA and PCB/CCA design - Electronic drawer/unit design

  • Test System Architecture and Design

  • Some responsibilities include both performing and leading the following:

    • FPGA design, functional simulation, and test vector creation - Leading a team of engineers in design of FPGAs and flight test systems

    • PCB/CCA design, development, test, and integration - Electronic Unit design, development, test, and integration

    • Electronic Test System (Test Set) design, development, test, and post-delivery support

    • Developing and presenting design reviews for internal and external customers - Reporting schedule and earned value to project leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (ideally Electrical or Computer Engineering) and 14+ years of experience; OR STEM Master’s Degree with 12+ years of experience; OR PhD. With 9+ years of experience

  • Design and test experience in digital technology

  • FPGA design experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • DOD, SCI, or SSBI clearance

Salary Range: $171,600 USD - $257,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
