The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Advanced Processing Solutions Business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies, and drives advances in the sciences. One of our most challenging new fields is Transformational Computing, which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large scale high performance computing systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these processing solutions a reality and deliver remarkable new advantages to the warfighter.

Our Northrop Grumman Mission Systems team in McClellan (Sacramento), CA is seeking a Mixed-Signal Electrical Design Engineer to join an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientist on various project assignments. 

Successful candidates will bring proven skills and experience in electronic hardware design, design support, testing, product development, and requirement specification development efforts.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with peers and other engineering disciplines in the planning, design and prototyping of complex mixed signal systems
  • Design electronic circuits for use in custom electronic test equipment systems used in the measurement of cryogenic cooled superconducting devices
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems
  • Complete tasks aligned to schedule, budget, cost, design objectives and requirements
  • Work under general direction to independently determine and develop viable approaches to solutions

This position requires fulltime on-site support at our facility in McClellan, CA.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in analog, digital, and mixed signal electronic system design; 3 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 0 years with a PHD
  • Design experience in one or more of the following focus areas: signal processing, signal integrity, microcontrollers, control and feedback systems, distributed hardware systems, operational amplifier integration, passive filtering
  • Electronic circuit design simulation experience using SPICE, HFSS, ADS, or similar tools
  • Hands on experience with laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, DMM, BERT scopes, network analyzers and signal analyzers
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph per business requirements; US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Analog design experience in analog low noise, analog filters, shielding, and or EMI
  • Embedded design experience incorporating Xilinx FPGAs
  • Schematic capture using Mentor Graphics DX Designer and layout using Mentor Expedition
  • ASIC, FPGA and microcontroller integration
  • Test and troubleshooting of electronics and electrical systems related to analog/mixed signal, RF, and communication
  • Experience developing embedded firmware and software using C, C++ and MatLab
  • Project leadership experience

This position reports to McClellan, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Sacramento, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
