Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer/ Principle Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Melbourne, FL, operating on our 9/80 schedule meaning you will get every Friday off. The position has no opportunity for remote or Hybrid work.

**This position may be filled by either Mechanical Design Engineer level or a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer level based on the qualifications listed. **

The selected candidate will contribute to the research, design, analysis, manufacture, and testing associated with aircraft Support Equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.

• Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing basic stress and tolerance analysis

• Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.

• Development of test plans and performing environmental testing of Support Equipment

• Testing and integration of manufactured Support Equipment on aircraft

• Proficient with design, drafting, and stress analysis of mechanical systems. Drafting skills shall include considerable knowledge of solid modeling software, (NX, Pro Engineer, or Catia), or CAD based computer drafting software.

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must also be willing to travel to various site locations to demonstrate the function of the designed equipment.

Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Design Engineer:

• Bachelor’s Degree a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 2 years’ relevant experience; OR a Masters’ Degree with 0 years’ experience

• Experience using CAD software in generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies.

• A current active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.

• Ability to obtain additional Special Access Program (SAP) access

Basic Qualifications Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years’ experience; or a Masters’ Degree in a STEM Discipline with 3 years’ experience; or a PhD in a STEM Discipline with 0 Years’ experience

• Proficient using CAD software in generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies.

• A current active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.

• Ability to obtain additional Special Access Program (SAP) access.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using FEA software in performance of stress analysis of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies to include static and dynamic analysis to MIL-STD-810 requirements.

• FAA A&P Certificate or equivalent aircraft maintenance background

• Experience developing manufacturing drawings to GD&T standards.

Salary Range: $66,600 USD - $99,800 USD

Salary Range 2: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
