Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Propulsions Division is currently looking for a Principal Electrical Cable Design and Analysis Engineer to join our team at our Promontory, UT location.

The Electrical Cable Design and Analysis Engineer is responsible to create, modify and support engineering for: instrumentation integration design (flight and ground tests), cable harness design, avionics box design, and electromagnetic environmental effects analyses. Production support, including discrepancy resolution will also be required. This engineer will work with Systems and Project Engineers to support the verification of these designs to requirements and interact with in-house and external customers.

Job Duties:

  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and as-built documentation.

  • Write test plans and oversee testing to demonstrate and/or qualify designs.

  • Produce and maintain system and component level requirement sets.

  • Compile and analyze test data, use the results to assess and improve product designs.

  • Assist in the process of validating designs through the flight certification process.

  • Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

  • Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

  • Provide, as needed, supplier oversight, testing oversight and assembly integration support. Includes occasional on-site support at manufacturer or vendor locations and lab environments.

Experience Requirements:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Electro-mechanical systems experience with BS degree.

  • Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of 0% – 10%

Experience Preferred: 

  • Experience working to conclusion design drawings and specifications

  • Experience/knowledge working design verification and verification reporting

  • Experience with integrated electrical systems setup, testing and issue resolution

  • Experience integrating instrumentation (mechanical and electrical) including electrical checkout of sensors and data acquisition hardware

  • Experience with electrical circuit analysis

  • Experience with E3 related requirements and analyses

  • Experience with avionics architecture and/or components (boxes, batteries, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in participating in engineering teams

  • Knowledge of test design and execution

  • Work experience in a government contracting environment

  • Experience with Zuken or Capital Harness Designer, Cameo, CST, and NX.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of electronic and electromechanical system design and integration

  • Broad understanding of mechanical design and analysis

  • Ability to analyze analog circuits primarily related to instrumentation systems.

  • Integration engineering skills (i.e. ability to integrate ground system designs with flight hardware needs)

  • Understanding of principles and applications related to electromagnetics environmental effects (lightning, RF, electrical bonding methods, ESD)

  • Ability to read an electrical circuit schematic and assess functionality

  • Ability to present and articulate complex designs to both internal and external customers

  • Strong skills in effectively learning and applying new concepts and tools

  • Demonstrated ability to get work done in an environment of established systems and procedures

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skill

  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture

Education/Certifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
