Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Propulsions Division is currently seeking a Composite Case Design & Analysis/ Principal Composite Case Design & Analysis Engineer to provide talent to our Structural Engineering team at our Promontory or Bacchus (Magna), UT facility.

Role description & Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for aiding the development of composite rocket motor cases and associated hardware. Candidate will contribute to major design efforts and coordinate technical efforts based on knowledge and experience. Candidate will create designs for future rocket motor case products using advanced in-house codes coupled with finite element analysis.

Job Duties: 

  • Design composite rocket motor cases using Northrop Grumman proprietary computer codes. 

  • Design associated components and structures, both composite and metallic, to achieve lowest cost from design and lean manufacturing principles.

  • Perform 2D and 3D structural analysis for the design of flight hardware and test articles using Siemens NX CAD software and ABAQUS/CAE.

  • Create engineering drawings and specifications to define design for hardware fabrication, write test plans, support fabrication efforts, oversee testing, analyze test data and make revisions to design based on results.

  • Learn and help maintain standard design processes.

Experience Requirements:  

  • Candidate must have a minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of engineering design experience or 0 years with a MS

  • Position can be filled one level higher, BS and 5 years or MS and 3 years of experience

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years and 2 years (T02) in solid rocket motor design and manufacture experience.  MS degree requires 2 less years experience.

  • Must have U.S citizenship

Preferred Experience

  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture

This position reports to Corinne, UT, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Magna, UT, UT, USA.


Salary Range: $73,400 USD - $110,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
