Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) Design Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Roy, UT. This NH&S Manager reports to the Sentinel Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) Senior Manager.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The NH&S Design Manager is responsible for coordinating the analysis and test for electronics units, subsystems, payloads, and ballistic missile system. This position will facilitate cross-segment integration by ensuring design teams’ work is compliant with the radiation, electromagnetic, and mechanical hostile environments.  This manager should be experienced in evaluating electronic, mechanical, and facility designs based off requirement specifications and should be familiar with the effects of hostile environments, such as Total Ionizing Dose effects, Neutron Displacement Damage effects, Prompt Gamma Dose Rate effects, and Single Event Effects statistical analysis and modeling. 

The NH&S Design Manager 1 or NH&S Design Manager 2 will also provide personnel support to the Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) Team and will have responsibility for quality, technical execution of engineers. The role work closely with program leadership, the technical leaders, and functional subject matter experts within the NH&S Team. This position is a combination of hands-on management of engineering activities and personnel development and mentoring.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead a diverse team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Physicists, and Analysists to execute a test program on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate NH&S input into design reviews. Consider time and funding constraints. Track execution. Ensure high quality deliverables from suppliers and to end customer.
  • Coordinate Nuclear Hardness and Survivability (NH&S) analysis for electronic parts, cables, circuit cards, and ballistic missile systems.
  • Review data deliverables from other teams and subcontractors including: test plans, test reports, verification methodology, and analysis reports for hardening of components against requirements on total dose, displacement damage, prompts and prompt dose latchup/ upset, and single event effects
  • Review of industry survivability/ radiation plans and reports
  • Communicate effectively and report regular status to Program Managers, IPT Management, and customer.
  • Develop and support consistent execution of standard practices, best practices, methods, software and tools across programs. Implement lessons learned, standard practices, best practices, and continuous improvement plans. Lead projects and plans to improve technology, strategic capability, overall design, analysis and production capacity.
  • Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary
  • Work with the program NH&S Senior manager and Technical leads in establishing personal program and functional goals and perform performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates. Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching
  • Manage and forecast engineering resources in collaboration with engineering management and technical leaders

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Master’s Degree in STEM and a minimum of 4 years of related experience; PhD in STEM and a minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Must have an Active DoD Secret clearance with an investigation data within the last 6 years.
  • 1+ years’ experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule
  • 3+ years’ experience as a DoD (or equivalent) contractor
  • 1+ years’ experience leadership experience leading a diverse engineering team on technical efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal management experience to include performance review for direct reports
  • Demonstrated system ownership experience in requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, or verification
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, IBM DOORS
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience or CAM training
  • Experience with system or subsystem test and integration in engineering laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of configuration management best practices, scheduling, and cost estimation
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and to meet program commitments in a highly concurrent engineering environment
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Active Special Program Access (SAP)
  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Salary Range: $127,700 USD - $191,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
