We are looking for you to join our team as an Embedded Software Engineer / Digital Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA. What You’ll get to Do:

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Digital Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer to join our diverse and talented Digital Technology team in the design, implementation, and integration of real-time embedded software & VHDL coding for our next generation Embedded GPS/Inertial Navigation System. Development performed at our Woodland Hills, CA site.

  • Designing and writing GPS receiver source code across our product line of hardware form factors
  • Debugging or modifying existing code to add new features or correct defects
  • Ensuring execution of the software engineering process across the development life cycle
  • Estimation, planning and prioritization of tasks to meet program deadlines
  • Reporting on project status and progress measured against specific plans
  • Developing host applications and tools to interface and test products
  • Supporting in the field integrations and demonstration efforts
  • Putting our customer first through customer support activities
  • Expanding our knowledge base together through mentorship and training opportunities.

This requisition may be filled at either the base Level or a Principal Level. 

Basic Qualifications for an Embedded Software Engineer / Digital Engineer are:

  • 2 years of Engineering experience with a Bachelors of Science in a STEM discipline; 0 years of Engineering experience with Masters
  • Experience with both FPGA coding and embedded software
  • Experience with VHDL and or software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug, and maintenance required
  • Experience in Software Architecture design and implementation
  • Demonstrated use of high-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Java, or scripting languages such as Python
  • Experience in security architecting and coding
  • Experience using software management and workflow automation tools such as ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, or Jira
  • US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Engineering experience or academic background in the Navigation/FPNT domain, specifically in one or more of the following areas:
    • NAVWAR Algorithms
    • Timing and Distributed Clock Algorithms
    • Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems
    • SDR or software defined radios
    • Instrument and navigation applications
    • Multi-Sensor Fusion Algorithms
    • Quantum Science
    • IMU Systems engineering
    • MEMS Instrument Engineering
    • Instrument engineering
  • Ability to work onsite

  • 5 years of Engineering experience with a Bachelors of Science in a STEM discipline; 3 years of Engineering experience with Masters; 0 years with a PhD
  • Experience with both FPGA coding and embedded software
  • Experience with VHDL and or software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug, and maintenance required
  • Experience in Software Architecture design and implementation
  • Demonstrated use of high-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Java, or scripting languages such as Python
  • Experience in security architecting and coding
  • Experience using software management and workflow automation tools such as ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, or Jira
  • US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Engineering experience or academic background in the Navigation/FPNT domain, specifically in one or more of the following areas:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Real-time safety-critical embedded software systems development experience (including APIs, interfaces and device drivers)
  • Demonstrated capability to develop UML software designs using design tools such as Rhapsody and/or Model Based Engineering designs using tools such as Simulink or SCADE
  • Experience with the full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation and unit test, integration, and maintenance
  • Experience with software test tools such as LDRA and Vector Cast and code analysis tools such as Polyspace


Salary Range: $93,500 USD - $140,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $115,200 USD - $172,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
