Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Sr. Principal Digital Engineering role in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting the Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU).  We are seeking a highly qualified Digital Engineer to lead a small FPGA team in the implementation/creation of VHDL and an embedded ARM development framework inside a Xilinx UltraScale+ FPGA.  The successful candidate will have a background in Modeling and simulation.  

This position can be filled at our Morrisville, NC, or Fairfax, VA office.

The Sr. Principal Digital Engineer, designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates digital electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for digital electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 9 years with STEM Bachelors; 7 years with STEM Masters; 4 years with STEM PHD
  • This position requires a current/active TS/SCI and the willingness to take a CI poly
  • FPGA modeling and simulation (Examples: System Verilog, Matlab, UVM)
  • VHDL in the ARM processor for Xilinx FPGA
  • Experienced with timing and routing in the FPGA
  • Experienced leading a small team

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • TS/SCI with Full scope poly
  • Experience with REDHAWK SDR or other SDR

This position reports to Morrisville, NC, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Fairfax, VA, VA, USA.


Salary Range: $129,800 USD - $214,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
