SSSD has an opening for an Electromechanical Manufacturing Engineer / Principal Electromechanical Manufacturing Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting Ground manufacturing processes and will resolve manufacturing issues, process improvements and generate innovative solutions to problems. This position will be located at our Space Park facility located in Manhattan Beach, CA.

This role may be filled at the Electromechanical Engineer (Level 2) or Principal Electromechanical Engineer (Level 3 ) level depending on the qualifications below.

Essential Functions:

  • Support engineering development and production teams to ensure producibility and affordability of design and manufacturing systems.

  • Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations, manage bills of materials, create detailed work instructions, process procedures.

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of increasing scope and complexity as assigned.

  • Supports day-to-day duties including support assemblers, resolving hardware issues, root cause analysis, corrective actions.

  • Innovate and participate in new technology development.

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with hardware designers, and test engineers.

Electromechanical Engineer (Level 2) Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of engineering experience OR master’s degree and 0 years of engineering experience

  • Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, functional departments, and customers.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret and Top-Secret clearance.

Principal Electromechanical Engineer (Level 3) Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of engineering experience OR master’s degree and 3 years of engineering experience

  • Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, functional departments, and customers.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret and Top-Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing Engineering

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This position reports to Manhattan Beach, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Redondo Beach, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
