Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr Principal/Principal Engineer Electronics for the RQ-4 Communications team. 

Essential Functions:

•Perform segment, subsystem and procurement requirements development using verification methods.  Tracing from Platform System Requirements to Procurement Specification.   

•Perform/support review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration.

•Perform/support design reviews, or reviews of design related documentation (ICDs, system and subsystem design documents, etc.)

•Perform field integration, troubleshooting and repair of communications and data link systems in military flight test environment, including operations on a flight line, in a hangar, and in command and control centers.

•Perform laboratory and flight test planning and execution, both CONUS and OCONUS.

•Perform various test procedures in lab, in a hangar, and in ground control locations.

•Perform change management and engineering change proposal (ECP) duties, including preparation, analysis, planning and execution.

•Support development and management of integrated schedules, earned value, risk management, and status reports & briefings and other program communications .


Principal Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university

  • 5 years of engineering experience or 3 years with a Master’s Degree 

  • Experience with communications technologies examples include:  Internet Protocol (IP) networks, Voice over IP (VoIP), Information Assurance (IA), Wideband and narrowband satellite and Line-of-Sight (LOS) RF communications , co-site interference.

  • Active DOD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

•Working knowledge of RS-422, MIL-STD-1553, and internet protocol (IP) based networks, development and test methodologies.

•Working knowledge of Link-16 (MIDS LVT and MIDS JTRS) and other tactical data links.

•Working knowledge of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communication systems.

•Working knowledge of Cybersecurity implementation and Risk Management Framework (RMF)

•Knowledge of Software Defect Management and Management Tools (DOORS, ClearQuest, etc)

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work confidently in a high-pressure environment, while interacting with all levels of staff from flight-line and field technicians to executive management

•Excellent leadership skills, be a self-starter, detail oriented and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

•Active Secret Clearance

Senior Principal Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7 years of engineering experience or 5 years with a Master’s Degree

  • Active DOD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
