Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal RF Engineer to join our team supporting the Metis program.  The position is based at a facility in Aurora, Colorado.

This role designs, develops, integrates, and tests radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, or products.

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Support architecture trades, design analysis, and performance.
  • Provide systems engineering support to hardware developments for ground systems utilizing state-of-the-art antenna, RF, and digital technologies.
  • Project roles span all phases of product development cycle, from new business acquisition to established programs delivering integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Systems engineering activities include system architecture design, trade studies, specification development, requirement definition and allocation, performance analysis, and simulation; system modeling and simulation tool development, and support to hardware design, manufacturing, integration, and testing.

This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4, depending on the candidate’s experience as laid out in the basic qualifications detailed below as well as the interview assessment.

Basic Qualifications

Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant RF design experience; 3 years with a Master’s in STEM discipline; 0 years with a Ph.D. in STEM discipline
  • Must have active/current DoD TS/SCI clearance or higher to be considered.
  • Experience with RF and digital hardware design
  • Experience with Baseband and digital signal processing
  • Experience with Waveform design
  • Experience with Signal detection and estimation
  • Experience with communication systems and networking

Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline with 9 years of relevant RF design experience; 7 years with a Master’s in STEM discipline; 4 years with a Ph.D. in STEM discipline
  • Must have active/current DoD TS/SCI clearance or higher to be considered.
  • Experience with RF and digital hardware design
  • Experience with Baseband and digital signal processing
  • Experience with Waveform design
  • Experience with Signal detection and estimation
  • Experience with communication systems and networking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with RF budgeting, frequency planning, RF chain analysis and modeling, schematic capture, electromagnetic simulation, signal integrity analysis
  • Component selection and/or custom component requirements flow down and trades.
  • RF lab equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, etc.
  • Electronic troubleshooting from component to assembly levels
  • Product life cycle support from concept through production support
  • Designing for high reliability, mil/aero requirements, and environments
  • Software tools: Mentor Xpedition DX Designer, ANSYS HFSS, Keysight ADS, Keysight Genisys, MathWorks MATLAB, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range:  Level 3 = $99,800 - $149,800; Level 4 = $123,800 - $185,800

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
