The Operations Exploitation Systems (OES) Engineering Team is seeking a Discipline Manager to lead a team of Hardware Managers, Engineers, and Lab activities for the Boulder site in the Engineering organization.

This is a dual role Discipline Manager (Functional Role) and Engineering Manager (Program Role).  

Functional Role and Responsibilities include: The successful candidate will be a manager of managers and team members help their team understand the OES organization's vision and principles, build a culture that empowers and motivates individual excellence, and establish functional homeroom shared accountability for program/project performance. Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Perform technical planning and cost and risk analyses for total systems. Discipline Manager responsibilities include working closely with the fellow Discipline managers to implement department initiatives, ensuring successful planning and execution of program test engineering activities, collaborating with programs to satisfy staffing needs and provide operations support (incident investigations, metrics collection and analysis, etc.), setting goals and providing regular performance feedback to employees, supporting the annual salary review and promotion process, mentoring and developing the next generation of technical and project leadership, and improving and enforcing test engineering processes and procedures.

Program Role and Responsibilities include: This position will entail maintaining smooth operation of multi-user OES RF Lab. Efficient communication and shared understanding among stakeholders regarding relationships between system requirements and the system being developed, through precise engineering artifacts and traceability of designs to requirements. Frequent contact with individuals from other departments, and/or outside organizations. Candidate will be responsible for directing, planning, executing and status hardware programs to include technical performance. Responsible for looking across the organization for efficiencies including reduction of current plans while still meeting program needs. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 9 years relative experience with a bachelor’s degree; 7 years of relative experience with a Masters
  • DOD Active Top Secret Required to start work
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • 3+ years Leadership experience
  • Demonstrated skills as an Engineering Proposal / Capture Manager in Ground Process or other ground satellite systems operational centers.
  • Experience using mechanical and electrical ground equipment, operating, and maintaining electrical systems, and operating and maintaining ground processing systems.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Current DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance/Access
  • Current Program Access
  • In depth knowledge of system integration and test
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems associated with ground power
  • Knowledge of Systems Test in a lab environment or ground shelter
  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing ground environments for non imaging inferred systems.


Salary Range: $176,100 USD - $264,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
